Kozhikode: Mundakkai landslide survivor
Shruthi who had lost nine members of her family in the disaster and then her fiancé, Jenson, in a car accident in which she was also injured was discharged from a private hospital on Friday. She thanked the hospital staff and others who supported her with a smile, thereby emerging as a symbol of resilience of surmounting the tragedy.
Shruthi who underwent a surgery in her leg requires complete rest for few weeks and will have to undergo another surgery in the other leg. She will be staying at a house of her relative at Munderi.
Shruthi's fiance Jenson, who had been her sole support after the disaster, was injured in a van accident on Sept 10 when the van he was traveling in, along with Shruthi and other relatives, collided with a private bus. Jenson, who was seriously injured, succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at a private medical college at Meppadi the next day.
Shruthi plans to complete the unfinished work at the firm which Jenson was running and on knowing that she required a laptop to do the works while recuperating, Kalpetta MLA T Siddique promised that it would be made available on Saturday itself.
Shruthi expressed her gratitude to all those who had stood by her during the time of immense tragedy and specifically thanked Siddique for standing beside her as a brother and family member.
Siddique said Shruti has become a powerful icon of the resilience and a model to the world in how to overcome disasters. He said that though Shruthi had been hit by tragedies one after the other, she did not falter.
