Mysuru: KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana on Saturday criticised the governor's action of prosecuting the chief minister, accusing the governor of acting like an agent of state
BJP and JD(S) leaders.
Addressing reporters, Lakshmana urged President Droupadi Murmu to recall the governor from Karnataka. He alleged that both JD(S) and BJP are undermining democracy by misusing the governor’s office to overthrow the majority Congress government in Karnataka.
Despite the Karnataka Lokayukta filing a petition to the governor ten months ago seeking permission to prosecute union minister HD Kumaraswamy, BJP leaders Murugesh Nirani and Shashikala Jolle in the mining case, the governor hastily accepted complaints filed by private individuals against the chief minister and granted permission to prosecute him.
Lakshmana asserted that neither his party nor the CM will be intimidated by the governor’s move. He stated that BJP leaders BY Vijayendra, union ministers HD Kumaraswamy, Pralhad Joshi, and leader of opposition R Ashok will not succeed in their attempt to remove the powerful backward classes chief minister from office.
Lakshmana also accused BJP leaders of plotting against deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar.
‘We’ll challenge issue’Announcing that his party will challenge this issue both politically and legally, the spokesperson claimed his party should not be held responsible for any destruction of public property if organisations or individuals protesting engage in violence against the governor’s decision.
District Congress president BJ Vijaykumar said that Congress activists will intensify their protest in all taluk and district headquarters, demanding that the President recall the governor from the state. The party is holding the ‘Go Back Governor’ protest from Sunday. City Congress president R Murthy affirmed that the party and its activists will stand behind the chief minister.
