PATNA: Around 20 to 25 house houses were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the Mufassil Police Station area in Krishnanagar in Bihar's Nawada.
According to sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Sunil Kumar, the violence is believed to stem from a land dispute, though no casualties have been reported.
The incident has sparked significant outrage from the opposition, leading to a major political uproar in the region.
Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi criticised the ruling
NDA alliance for failing to protect the community.
"Burning down an entire colony of Mahadalits and destroying the homes of over 80 families highlights the horrific injustice faced by the Bahujans in Bihar. The cries of Dalit families and the terror created by gunfire have not awakened the sleeping government of Bihar," he stated in a post on X.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief
Mayawati called for government assistance for the victims.
"The burning of Dalit houses in Nawada is extremely sad and serious. The government must take strict action against the culprits and provide full financial support for their rehabilitation."
Former deputy CM
Tejashwi Yadav condemned the NDA for its neglect of dalits, claiming that the state is under "Jungle Raj."
"Over 100 dalit houses were set ablaze. Under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, the poor are suffering while the government remains indifferent. Atrocities against Dalits will not be tolerated," he posted on X.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the incident, highlighting concerns about Dalit safety in NDA-ruled Bihar.
"It is unacceptable that around 100 dalit houses were set on fire, with families losing everything. The BJP and its allies' neglect of dalits has reached a peak. Prime Minister Modi remains silent, and Nitish Kumar is indifferent," Kharge stated on X.
