Ranchi: In order to inculcate a sense of cleanliness and hygiene into govt school children, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has initiated ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’, a fortnight-long campaign which will end on October 2.
As part of it, students and teachers are taking a cleanliness pledge during daily prayer meetings and participating in discussions on the subject.
Cleanliness drives are also being held within school grounds and hostels, with participation of students and teachers. Other activities, such as plantation drives, essay writing, debates, slogan writing, quizzes, and painting competitions, are being held to engage students in creative ways.
To further institutionalise these efforts, schools will establish Swachhata Clubs in coming days.
JEPC director Aditya Ranjan said, "The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Swabhaav Swachhata, Sanskar, Swachhata’. Schools are encouraged to engage in continuous activities that promote cleanliness, with a strong emphasis on personal hygiene and upkeep of school facilities.”
Last year, the department gave Rs 2.5 crore to improve sanitation facilities in 219 schools across the state, including the installation of dustbins and sanitary waste incinerators in girls’ hostels. JEPC with the health department, aims to install incinerators in 203 KGBV schools and 58 Jharkhand Girls Residential Schools.
Ghanshyam Ojha, principal of Rajkiyakrit Hindi Balak Madhya Vidyalaya, said, “The education department aims to cultivate a cleaner, healthier environment for students, ensuring that the values of cleanliness and hygiene are ingrained in their daily lives. Students are increasingly prioritising hygiene and cleanliness, incorporating these practices into their daily routines.”
