Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University (
BHU) felicitated its alumnus, IPS officer Anurag Arya, on being bestowed with the esteemed ‘Chief minister excellent service police medal’ for his exemplary work in unravelling a perplexing case of serial killings targeting women.
Arya completed his Bachelor of Science (Honours) in physics from BHU in 2009. Hailing from Baghpat, Arya, a 2013 batch IPS officer, was a scholar of physics (Honours) in the faculty of science at BHU from June 2006 to May 2009.
Having served as the superintendent of police in Amethi, Balrampur, Mau, Pratapgarh and Azamgarh, Arya is presently stationed as the senior superintendent of police in Bareilly. He has been lauded with the director general of police’s silver disk, gold disk, and platinum disk. On the 78th Independence Day, Arya was conferred with the ‘Chief minister excellent service police medal’ by the CM.
BHU officials said that during his academic pursuits, Arya was a promising student with a fervent passion for sports. He was an indispensable member of the university’s basketball team. He participated in the All-India inter-university tournaments during 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, and his team clinched the bronze medal in the East Zone Inter-University championship.
After his undergraduate studies, Arya commenced his master’s degree at Delhi University but was selected by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), where he served briefly. He later qualified for the Indian Police Service through the UPSC examination in 2013. His career in law enforcement has been characterised by an unwavering commitment to justice, public service and upholding the rule of law, officials said.
