Varanasi: Chaos prevailed and several people got injured when a group of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth students and florists near Maldahiya Phoolmandi clashed over some dispute and indulged in brick batting on Sunday morning.
Inspector Sigra Manoj Kumar Mishra said that police have lodged an FIR against six identified and several others unidentified people of both the groups.
No complaint has been filed by either of the two groups in this connection During the initial investigation by the police, it came to light that an inmate of a MGKV hostel under the limits of Sigra police station had gone to the flower market at Maldahiya crossing, where he had some dispute with the florists. He returned to the hostel and after a few inmates, several inmates of the MGKV hostels reached the Maldahiya gate. They asked the florists and their buyers to remove the vehicles from the gate.
This led to an exchange of heated words leading to a clash between both the groups. The clash turned violent as both the groups indulged in brick batting. The incident led to chaos at this busiest crossings of the city. Several persons, including some passers-by, suffered injuries in the clash. On being informed, police from Sigra, Chetganj, and other neighbouring police stations reached and waved canes to disperse both the groups.
