Yogi Adityanath conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing development projects and law and order situation during his two-day visit to Varanasi on Saturday. He convened a meeting with public representatives and departmental officials at the Circuit House, where he issued directives to expedite the completion of projects while maintaining the highest quality standards.
The CM stated that any negligence in development works would not be tolerated at any level.
During the review of law and order, the CM instructed police officials to take immediate action upon receiving any crime report, leaving no room for complacency. He emphasised the need for strict action against professional and habitual criminals to maintain peace and security in the city.
District magistrate S Rajalingam apprised the CM of the progress of various ongoing projects in the city. He mentioned that due to the rising water levels in the Ganga, the completion of the Ring Road Phase-2 project by NHAI would be delayed until Feb 2025. Police commissioner Mohit Agarwal provided a detailed briefing on the law and order situation in Varanasi. The CM issued specific instructions to various departments to expedite the completion of pending projects. He directed the public works department (PWD) to accelerate the widening of the six-lane road from Mohansarai to Cantt and ensure the quality and speed of the four-lane road widening and improvement work from Lahartara to BHU-Vijaya Cinema. He also emphasised the need for the rapid completion of the Kajjakpura ROB construction and the construction of railway overbridges to standard specifications to avoid unnecessary jolts on the bridges.
The CM instructed the DM to expedite the construction of the proposed medical college in Pandeypur and the homeopathy college in Pindra constituency. He also directed the PWD to promptly repair the damaged sewer line in Ramnagar and advance the proposed road near Markandey Mahadev temple. The DM was instructed to ensure a solution to the problems faced by people at Harishchandra ghat. To improve the efficiency of govt departments, the CM ordered the immediate transfer of long-serving employees in the development authority and municipal corporation to other locations. He also called for the simplification of the map approval process. He instructed that the upcoming police recruitment exam be conducted with utmost transparency and fairness. He directed officials to identify and take appropriate action against those involved in bribery, illegal collections and improper behaviour with the public in govt departments.
He emphasised the use of technology to streamline work in development authorities, municipal corporations and gram panchayats. He urged officials to make some gram panchayats self-reliant as models for others to follow. He stressed the importance of good behaviour with pilgrims and tourists. The CM appointed nodal officers for each development project in the district and instructed weekly reviews to monitor progress. To maintain law and order, the CM instructed regular police patrolling, especially foot patrolling from Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple to Dalmandi.
He emphasised the need for effective traffic management in the city. He directed regular public hearings at police stations, circles, development blocks and tehsils, and swift resolution of complaints with accountability.
