The relationships between wrestlers can shift quickly, from friendships to fierce competition, adding more layers to the drama. For those who know Sami Zayn are well aware of the series of accolades under his belt which makes him a worthy opponent to some of the talented names in WWE. But, not everyone is in favor of him showcasing his skills in claiming the title of World Heavyweight Championship. One of them is the former WWE Head Writer, Vincent Russo. The latter shared his thoughts on Zayn’s pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship against
Gunther who is the current winner of the title.
This past week on RAW, Zayn faced off against Ludwig Kaiser, a member of Gunther’s faction, Imperium. Even though he won the match by pulling his signature Helluva Kick, Gunther refused to give him a title for the championship.
As the deliberations on Zayn’s claim to compete for the prestigious title continue, Russo expressed his opinions on the subject on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of Raw He argued that it doesn’t make sense for the NXT Champion, who recently lost the Intercontinental Championship to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam to be competing for a much high-tier title like World Heavyweight Championship. He also maintains that Gunther did right not to give him the title Speaking on the subject, he explained,
"You just lost the Intercontinental title to Bron Breakker. So how do you lose the Intercontinental title but now you're gonna get a shot at a title that's on a higher level when you couldn't keep the title below it? None of that makes any sense whatsoever. I guess this show only makes sense to the built-in marks that watch it."
The core of Russo’s argument revolves around the logic of the professional wrestling storyline. As per the conventional rule, a competitor has to prove themselves by winning or holding a title in a certain order. Thus, Zayn’s recent loss should, in theory, disqualify him from immediately vying for a more prestigious championship. Over the past few weeks, the WWE star has attempted to secure a match for the World Heavyweight Championship but has faced many obstacles.
With “Bad Blood” approaching, fans are eager to see whether Zayn can persuade Gunther to give him a shot at the championship. The tension between these characters creates an intriguing narrative. As Zayn continues to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, the stakes are high. Will he find a way to convince Gunther to agree to a match or will the championship stand firm in its refusal? The answers to these questions will shape the ongoing storylines in WWE and determine Zayn’s path moving forward.
