1,000 cataract surgeries in just over a year at Sanquelim CHC
Panaji: The Sanquelim community health centre (CHC) has successfully performed 1,000 cataract surgeries in just over a year.
The milestone was achieved through the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) programme.
The eyecare facility and operation theatre at the CHC were inaugurated in Aug last year, and are staffed by three senior doctors and a team of dedicated professionals.

Chief medical officer of the ophthalmic cell at the directorate of health services, Dr Medha Salkar, said the facility not only excels in cataract surgeries but also provides comprehensive care for diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other eye-related conditions. “Equipped with advanced medical equipment, the centre offers top-notch facilities, eliminating the need for referrals to higher-level facilities,” she said.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the local MLA congratulated the ophthalmic department at the Sanquelim CHC.
“Your efforts and expertise have brought vision and hope to many individuals and families,” he said in a post on a social media platform.
