In Thavanampalle, a lone tusker separated from its herd trampled a farmer to death, damaged mango orchards, and was driven back into the woods. Police conducted postmortem, and a case was registered.

TIRUPATI: A lone tusker, which got separated from its herd, went on a marauding spree and trampled a 50-year-old farmer to death near Thavanampalle in Chittoor district of AP in the early hours on Sunday.
According to local police, a herd of nine tuskers was moving around the reserve forests in the last couple of days. One adult tusker, which got separated from the herd, went berserk and damaged mango orchards at Vemgampalli village in Thavanampalle mandal.
The tusker also attacked and trampled to death a local farmer identified as G Chinnaiah.

Police and forest department officials visited the village after learning about the incident and shifted the body for postmortem. A case was registered.
Forest officials took measures to drive the tusker back into the woods to reunite with its herd.
Later, the district administration handed over an ex gratia of 5 lakh to the deceased farmer’s family.
