BENGALURU: Purportedly tipping off police about drug peddling proved costly for a 20-year-old youth, who was stabbed a fortnight ago on Shivanahalli bridge of West of Chord Road.
Basaveshwaranagar police swung into action and arrested the accused — Suhail alias Macchi Suhail, a resident of JJ Nagar of Mysuru Road. The injured has been identified as Jahid Ulla, a resident of Padarayanapura.
Ulla works with an automobile firm in Timber Yard Layout of Byatarayanapura.
According to a complaint filed by Ulla on Sept 11, he was at a mobile service centre in Vijayanagar on Sept 1 to get his phone repaired. Suhail allegedly came to the store on his moped and told Ulla his elder brother Imran had asked to bring him to Yeshwantpur to discuss some issue.
En route to Yeshwantpur, Suhail claimed he had some work on West of Chord Road and took Ulla to Shivanahalli bridge around 12.45pm. He stopped the moped and asked Ulla to get down.
Suhail then picked a quarrel with Ulla, alleging that he had tipped off JJ Nagar police about his drug-peddling activity that had led to his arrest and stay at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, for a few months. In a fit of rage, Suhail took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ulla in the abdomen, saying he should die for going to the cops.
While Ulla screamed for help, Suhail left him on the bridge and sped away. Ulla told police he hired an autorickshaw to his house, from where his mother took him to a hospital, where he was under treatment till Sept 11. After being discharged, he lodged a police complaint.
A senior cop said, "Suhail was arrested within hours of the complaint being filed. He had been arrested twice by JJ Nagar police for peddling MDMA. We aren't sure if his arrest was because of Ulla, but he claims so. Suhail had received bail only two weeks earlier."
Suhail has been booked under BNS Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 351 (2) (3) (criminal intimidation).
