Bengaluru's Rameshwaram cafe blast suspects chargesheeted in IS case

The NIA has linked two suspects from the Rameshwaram cafe blast to the Shivamogga IS conspiracy case. Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taaha and Mussavir Hussain Shazib, residents of Shivamogga district, are accused of radicalising and recruiting youths for Islamic State activities. Both suspects are currently held in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.

BENGALURU: The two prime suspects arrested in connection with the city's Rameshwaram cafe blast on March 1 this year have been named as suspects in the Shivamogga IS conspiracy case, according to the third supplementary chargesheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Imprisoned accused Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taaha alias Taha and Mussavir Hussain Shazib alias Shazib, both residents of Thirthahalli taluk in Shivamogga district, were allegedly engaged in radicalising and recruiting gullible Muslim youths, stated NIA.

Both are in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison.
The chargesheet against the duo in the IS conspiracy case was filed with a special court in the city on Tuesday, taking the total chargesheeted accused to 10.
"The case, taken over by the NIA from Karnataka police in November 2022, relates to the anti-India activities of the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS/ISIS). The accused persons were involved in violent activities like arson, trial explosions, and burning of the Indian national flag, in addition to radicalisation, recruitment, terror funding, as part of the IS conspiracy to spread terror and destabilise the nation," a press release stated.
