SriLankan Airlines expects surge in Bengaluru flyers
Bengaluru: SriLankan Airlines expects a surge in passenger numbers from Bengaluru this year, following the 40,000 passengers it flew out of the city in 2023, according to CEO Richard Nuttall.
While Sri Lanka remains a top destination for Bengalureans, other favoured spots include Australia, the Maldives, and popular locations in the Far East like Malaysia, Singapore, and Bangkok.

Approximately 35% of Bengaluru passengers use Colombo as a transit point to reach long-distance destinations, particularly Australia and the Maldives. "Demand has consistently risen over the past five years, excluding the pandemic period," Nuttall noted, highlighting the airline's extensive global connectivity through direct and codeshare flights.
Bengaluru's travellers enjoy direct flights to Colombo before connecting to key cities across Europe, Middle East, and even North and South America. The second most popular destination for Bengalureans in 2023 was the Maldives, with all transit passengers flying via Colombo.
SriLankan Airlines' growing demand reflects its position as a favoured carrier for Bengalureans, offering convenient connections to a wide range of international destinations.
