Berhampur: Police arrested a 39-year-old woman on Saturday for allegedly looting gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 20 lakh from a house at Ganapati Nagar in Berhampur last month. The accused was identified as Rasmita Sahu.
Police said the houseowner had left the key with Sahu on Aug 10 to look after it in her absence. The owner lodged a complaint on Aug 28 after finding her ornaments missing.
“Sahu had obtained a gold loan of around Rs 3.50 lakh from a private investment company by mortgaging the stolen jewels. All the ornaments have been recovered and handed over to the owner,” Baba Saheb Saraf, IIC, Bada Bazar police station.TNN
