CHENNAI: An autorickshaw driver died when an MTC bus lost control and toppled on his vehicle near Porur in Chennai on Monday evening.
The deceased auto driver has been identified as Dinesh. Around 20 bus passengers, who suffered injuries, were treated as outpatients in a nearby hospital.
The accident happened on the Puzhal – Tambaram Bypass. The bus was going from Red Hills to Tambaram carrying 25 passengers.
When the bus was nearing a toll plaza near Porur, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus banged a roadside tree and toppled onto an autorickshaw moving on the service road, some 10 feet below the bypass. The auto driver was crushed to death.
A case was registered a case against the bus driver. Initial inquiries revealed that the bus ran amok due to a mechanical fault.
