Sankalp Trust to host conference on empowerment of neurodiverse children
CHENNAI: Sankalp Trust will conduct LEARN 2024, a two-day international conference on inclusion and empowerment of neurodiverse children and young adults, on Sept 21 and 22.
Sankalp is a Chennai-based special needs school focused on the development of children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities.
“The conference will provide critical insights for special educators, mainstream teachers, parents and caregivers to help integrate neurodivergent individuals into our community,” said Sankalp Open School principal B Jayalakshmi.

The school offers academic training through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and various vocational courses in areas like data entry, sewing, weaving and culinary skills.
"These programmes prepare higher secondary students for both academic and vocational success," said principal of Sankalp Learning Centre and Special Needs School Evelyn John.
Sankalp has introduced a two-year full-time diploma in special education (intellectual and developmental disabilities), accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India, to address the shortage of special education teachers. The first batch is set to graduate in 2025.
