Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Tanwar loses Delhi assembly membership for switching from AAP to BJP

Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar has lost his Delhi Assembly membership after being disqualified under the anti-defection law by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. Initially elected on an AAP ticket in 2020, Tanwar switched to BJP in July. His membership termination is effective from July 10, 2024. Another defector, Raaj Kumar Anand, was also previously disqualified.

NEW DELHI: Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar has lost his membership in the Delhi Assembly, announced officials on Tuesday. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel disqualified Tanwar under the anti-defection law.
Tanwar was elected from the Chhatarpur constituency on an AAP ticket in the 2020 Assembly elections. In July, he left AAP and joined BJP along with Raaj Kumar Anand, another MLA.

Raaj Kumar Anand, who represented the Patel Nagar reserved constituency, left his position as Social Welfare Minister in April. He resigned from AAP and was previously disqualified as an MLA by the Speaker.
The Delhi Assembly Secretariat released a notification on Tuesday stating, "Tanwar was disqualified by the Speaker under the anti-defection law and his membership of the Assembly was terminated from July 10, 2024."
