New Delhi: An uneasy calm prevailed in east Delhi's Trilokpuri after people from two communities got into a scuffle on Monday. Police have, however, ruled out any communal angle and said the scuffle was triggered by an old rivalry. Nine people from both groups have been apprehended.
Police said that around 11pm, a group of people, returning from
Ganesh Visarjan, had an argument with the other group.
A man called police, alleging that he had been attacked by a group of boys.
A team from the local police station rushed to the spot and, after scanning the CCTV camera footage, found that a group of boys from Block 31 and nearby blocks in Trilokpuri were returning after immersing the idol in Block 36. When they were passing through Block 32, they came face to face with a few boys from the area. A verbal argument started that escalated into a fistfight, but nobody was injured, said police.
Police were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident and senior officers also visited the spot. A senior officer made it clear that there was no communal angle to the incident, as reported by some people. Based on the CCTV footage, all the boys involved have been identified and apprehended, he said. "Peace and tranquillity are prevailing in the area," the officer said. A case under sections 191 (rioting) and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of BNS has been registered.
