Erode East Bypoll Result 2023 Live Updates: Congress candidate Elangova wins by margin of 66,000 votes

Former AIADMK minister and O Panneerselvam supporter Panruti S Ramachandran on Thursday lashed out at Edappadi K Palaniswami and his supporters for the AIADMK’s poor show in the Erode East bypoll. “ The bypoll result is a rude shock to us. The AIADMK can be safeguarded and developed only if Edappadi K Palaniswami and his group are thrown out,” Ramachandran said.

The ruling DMK has won the Erode East byelection by creating a new ‘Erode formula’ after strangulating democracy, alleged AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.In a statement issued on Thursday after the results of the Erode East byelection were out, EPS said people had witnessed the arrogance of the DMK government in this byelection.Akin to the ‘Thirumangalam formula’, the DMK has created a new formula by herding people in temporary shelters. “They later took the voters on ‘jolly tours’ when I warned that I would meet them at their shelters if they were not released,” he recalled.

Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan, 75, on Thursday won the high-decibel Erode East bypoll by a margin of 66,233 votes over AIADMK's K S Thennarasu and is set to enter the Tamil Nadu assembly after 34 years."The entire credit goes to chief minister M K Stalin. People have voted for DMK's good governance and love for Rahul Gandhi," Elangovan told reporters in Erode.

Congress candidate Elangova won Erode East bypoll by a margin of 66,087 votes. Elangovan got 1,09,906 votes against his opponent KS Thennarasu who got 43,819.

AIADMK's interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said the ruling party had misused its power and won the byelection. He alleged, “The DMK had also introduced a new "Erode formula" by murdering democracy”. He thanked the voters for casting their votes for the AIADMK candidate.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 66,397 votes after the 15th round of counting. Elangovan got 1,10,039 votes while K S Thennarasu got 43,642 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 63,027 votes after the 14th round of counting. Elangovan got 1,04,384 votes while K S Thennarasu got 41,357 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 58,804 votes after the 13th round of counting. Elangovan got 90,735 votes while K S Thennarasu got 38,494 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 55,499 votes after the 10th round of counting. Elangovan got 90,735 votes while K S Thennarasu got 35,236 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 51,133 votes after the 10th round of counting. Elangovan got 83,197 votes while K S Thennarasu got 32,064 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 48,257 votes after the 10th round of counting. Elangovan got 76,552 votes while K S Thennarasu got 28,295 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 44,722 votes after the 9th round of counting. Elangovan got 69,742 votes while K S Thennarasu got 25,020 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 38,392 votes after the 8th round of counting. Elangovan got 60,875 votes while K S Thennarasu got 22,483 votes.

Congress candidate Elangova led by 33,375 votes after 7th round of counting. Elangova got 53,441 votes while AIADMK's K S Thennarasu got 20,066 votes.

Uploading details on the election commission of India's website was halted after the internet server was suddenly down. The officials stopped the 11th-round counting. The officials said that they would start the counting only after round seventh details are uploaded on the ECI website.

AIADMK candidate KS Thennarasu said cash and muscle power won the bypoll instead of democracy. Leaving outside the counting center, he refused to comment further.

Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday said the Erode East bypoll result was a sign of people's overwhelming support to the Dravidian model government."I had asked people to weigh the performance of the DMK government and give their support. People have responded to the request and extended their support to the Dravidian model government," he said.

With early trends in Erode East bye-election showing a tilt towards the Congress, its workers and supporters burst into celebrations at Tamil Nadu's Chennai.In the latest trend, Indian National Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan is leading Erode East bye-election by 15,631 votes against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam opponent K.S Thennarasu."Everybody expected this and our party people were very confident to win. We are going to win this seat with a huge margin," Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge said while commenting on party's lead in Erode East by-poll in Tamil Nadu.

Congress candidate in Erode East bypoll E V K S Elangovan on Thursday said the entire credit for his impending victory in the election goes to Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin.At the end of the fifth round of counting of votes, Elangovan had bagged 39,692 votes while his closest rival K S Thennarasu was a distant second with 13,514 votes.

Congress' EVKS Elangovan established a comfortable lead of over 15,000 votes against his nearest rival KS Thennarasu of the AIADMK in the Erode East bypoll, counting of which was proceeding on Thursday.

Usually, sons succeed their fathers. But the Erode East assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu sees a father set to succeed his son as its elected representative. As the counting of votes polled for the February 27 byelection progressed on Thursday, Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan, 75, established a vast lead over his nearest rival AIADMK’s K S Thennarasu.

While 77 candidates are in the fray, the main contest is between former Union Minister E V K S Elangovan of the Congress backed by the ruling DMK and AIADMK's K S Thennarasu, a former legislator. Naam Tamilar Katchi's N Menaka and DMDK's S Anand are among the other candidates.

Congress got 596 votes, AIADMK 171, DMDK 5 whereas NTK secured 2.

First round: EVKS Elangovan 1033 votes ; Ks Thennarasu: 291; rest all zero.
