Gurgaon:
Congress MLA Mamman Khan, who was booked in four cases linked to the July 31 riots in Nuh, sparked a controversy by saying that those who wronged the children of Mewat will have to leave after his party forms a govt in
Haryana.
Khan made the statement while campaigning for re-election from Firozpur Jhirka in Nuh on Monday.
The MLA's remark was circulated widely on social media and was condemned by
BJP.
"Everyone knows. The time will come and a govt will be formed, God willing. I know each and every one of the oppressors who have wronged our children… I will not forgive them under any circumstances," Khan said, addressing a gathering in Beevan village.
On Khan's remarks, Haryana BJP posted on X that: "If the Congress comes to power, they will cause riots…"
BJP candidate from Nuh Sanjay Singh on Tuesday reacted to Khan's statement and urged the Election Commission to disqualify the Congress MLA.
"Those who undermine our country's democracy with provocative speeches are misusing freedom of speech granted by our laws," Singh said.
Khan has previously made controversial statements.
Last year, Khan had declared that cow vigilante Monu Manesar would be crushed if he set foot in Mewat again. The MLA had made the statement after Monu Manesar and his associates were accused of chasing and killing two men – Junaid and Nasir – from Rajasthan's Bharatpur. Their bodies were found in a burnt car in Haryana's Bhiwani.
Khan was arrested in Sept 2023, two weeks after communal riots erupted in Nuh during a religious procession. At the time, Haryana Police added his name retrospectively to four FIRs for allegedly inciting mob attacks.
Khan was granted bail in Oct. Other than charges for inciting violence, one of the cases against Khan is linked to the alleged looting and burning down of an oil mill owned by a BJP functionary.
