Centre approves flyover project
Belagavi: The central govt has sanctioned a flyover in Belagavi to ease the increasing traffic congestion in the city. It’s a dream project of minister Satish Jarkiholi, who has been putting in his efforts for a long time.
The proposal regarding the flyover was approved in a meeting led by Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi a week ago.

Jarkiholi had met Gadkari several times for the flyover project. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4,500 crore.
It will be the first-ever flyover in the city, with a 4.5km stretch from the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway to ICMR Centre at the entry point of the city at the North side via Rani Channamma Circle and Ambedkar Road. Precisely, it will start from Sankam Hotel in Gandhi Nagar and pass through Ashok Circle and Sangolli Rayanna Circle before reaching Channamma Circle. After Channamma Circle, it will continue towards ICMR Centre through KLE Hospital. Once the project is completed, it will significantly help improve traffic problems.
The preliminary plan says there will be two ramps at Ashok Circle - one going towards RTO Circle and another towards Mahantesh Nagar attached to the flyover. There will be three ramps at RTO Circle - one towards Channamma Circle, a second towards Kolhapur Circle, and another towards the central bus terminus. Apart from this, another road will connect Sambra Airport Road via a road over-bridge at Gandhi Nagar. According to the plan, there will be arches to the roads that connect with Channamma Circle.
In January, Jarkiholi held a preliminary meeting with officials of all other departments concerned. Then, he instructed officials of Belagavi Smart City Limited, Belagavi City Corporation, Hescom, and BSNL to take appropriate measures to implement the flyover project. Sources in the district administration said another meeting would be held this week to discuss the implementation of the project.
