Women should don leadership role, says Sudha Murthy at All India Women Academicians Conference
Hyderabad: Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Rajya Sabha MP and Infosys foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy on Saturday highlighted the importance of women in nation building at the All India Women Academicians Conference at Osmania University.
The conference, titled ‘Envisioning New Bharat', was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

Governor Dev Varma inaugurated the event, emphasising the need for greater empowerment and leadership of women in education. "Women's contribution to India's socio-economic growth is essential," he said, urging women academics to lead with boldness and innovation.
Keynote speaker Sudha Murthy focused on the strength and resilience of women in education and society. "Promoting opportunities for young women in science and leadership is critical," said Murthy.
The conference covered key topics such as women in STEM, digital literacy and the development of inclusive policy frameworks for women's empowerment. Discussions also touched on the role of women in achieving the sustainable development goals.
The event saw the launch of the women's anthem, ‘Jananam Neeve, Jananivi Neeve', written by Vangeepuram Sreenatha Chary and unveiled by governor Dev Varma and Murthy.
Other notable speakers included Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, who emphasised the protection of women's rights in education and leadership. Santishree Pandit, vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, highlighted the transformative role of education in society. "Education plays a transformative role in social development," said Pandit.
Manchukonda Shailaja, the conference convener, concluded the event by emphasising the importance of women academics working together to create a more inclusive and empowered future for India.
The conference brought together eminent women academics and experts from across the country to advocate for inclusive policies for the advancement of women in all professional fields.
