Telangana has less operational landholding size than India’s average at 1.4 hectares.
Going by the analysis of states and Union territories, Nagaland has the biggest average size of landholding at 4.9 ha, which can be attributed to its massive land area of 1.7 million ha and comparatively a smaller population of 1.5 million.
Punjab has the second largest average land area at 3.6 ha, followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
Other northern states have bigger per capita landholdings than other states due to their wide geographical area and fewer populations. In contrast, states like Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, and Kerala have lesser average landholdings than the all-India average. tnn
