Kanpur: A man allegedly strangled his son to death with a belt after a dispute on Sunday night. The accused, identified as Ranjit works as a daily wage labourer. He lived with his son Rohit Kumar (22), an auto driver, in Kanshiram Colony, Panki police station area.
According to the police, Rohit came home drunk on Sunday night and started abusing his father.
When Ranjit protested, Rohit thrashed him. In a fit of rage, Ranjit took Rohit's belt and strangled him and then went to sleep. On Monday morning, upon discovering his son's lifeless body, Ranjit panicked and informed the police, claiming that Rohit died due to excessive drinking. The police sent the body for post-mortem, which confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. On being questioned, Ranjit confessed to the crime.
Station in-charge Manvendra Singh said that accused has been arrested. Ranjit said that Rohit would often come home drunk and abuse him and beat him. "Tired of the daily quarrels, Ranjit decided to end his son's life," police said.
