Kanpur: The Kanpur municipal corporation has directed the Uttar Pradesh Metro rail Corporation (UPMRC) to provide three month rent advance to the residents of the dilapidated houses and houses damaged due to Metro work in Harbans Mohal locality.
A house had collapsed due to the tunnel boring work done under the Kanpur Metro project in the area recently while adjacent houses had developed cracks.
Mayor Pramila Pandey, along with the UPMRC officials, visited the locality on Friday and instructed them to provide with three-month rent in advance and also to initiate an inquiry with the IIT to assess the condition of dilapidated buildings.
A house had collapsed due to the tunnel boring work done under the Kanpur Metro project in the area recently. Some adjacent houses also developed cracks. During the inspection, it was found that the boring work had damaged sewer drainage and water line also. The UPMRC officials informed the mayor that approximately 12 houses were in a dilapidated state, while 45 had minor issues that could be resolved promptly. They also added that the building adjacent to the collapsed structure was extremely dilapidated and should be demolished.
The mayor instructed the metro officials to disburse three months’ rent in advance to the tenants enabling them to find an alternative accommodation. The mayor then requested the officials to compile a list of dilapidated houses, and submit within two days.
During the visit, the chief engineer of the municipal corporation & Metro Azhar Project manager, Metro, Rishi Gangwar AGM civil, Brajesh Kumar Verma, DK Sinha Afcon, and officials from zone-1 were present.
