Jhansi: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the academic community, two newly admitted students of Bundelkhand University were assaulted by their seniors in the campus hostel.
The incident, captured on video, has gone viral, prompting swift action by the university authorities who have rusticated the three students from the hostel pending further investigation.
According to sources, the victims, both first-year students of the MBA (FM) programme, had been allotted rooms in the Samta Hostel and were in the process of taking possession when they were confronted by their seniors. The situation escalated when the seniors beat up the junior students by sticks and raining blows on them.
The victims managed to flee the scene and reported the incident to the university authorities.
As the video of the assault spread like wildfire on social media, senior officials, accompanied by security personnel, rushed to the hostel to restore order and investigate the matter.
Reports have emerged suggesting the presence of individuals not enrolled in the university, as well as day scholars, within the hostel premises at the time of the incident, raising serious questions about security measures. University registrar Vinay Kumar Singh said, "We have taken immediate action by rusticating three students, prima facie found to be involved in the incident, from the hostel.
The matter has been referred to the proctorial board for a comprehensive investigation, and further actions will be taken based on their findings."
This incident comes on the heels of recent protests by female students residing in the university's girls' hostel, who have been demanding removal of their warden, citing a litany of grievances, including unsanitary conditions and poor food quality.
