Kochi: The forest department investigating the seizure of suspected ambergris from Lakshadweep Guest House last week is on the lookout for one more person connected to the case.
Forest officials had earlier arrested Muhammed Ishak, 31, of Androth island in Lakshadweep. Two persons, both officials with the Lakshadweep police, were nabbed with ambergris from a room at the Lakshadweep Guest House on last Thursday night.
Ishak was arrested for allegedly possessing the material.
Officials said the fourth accused identified as Jipson of Kalamassery who is connected to the crime was still on the run. He is a friend of Ishak, and both were trying to make profit through the trade of ambergris, forest sources said.
Ishak had kept the contraband in the room at the guest house and had returned to Lakshadweep. He was intercepted by Lakshadweep police who sent him back to Kochion Friday. He was arrested from the airport.
The accused have claimed that the material had washed ashore on the island. TNN
