Kozhikode: As many as 20 more persons who are contacts of the 24-year-old youth from Thiruvali panchayat in Malappuram who had died of Nipah on Sep 9 have tested negative for the virus
Health minister Veena George said that no fresh contacts have been added to the contact list on Friday.
She said that there were 267 persons on the contact list of the Nipah victim of which 81 were health workers.
There are 177 persons on the primary contact list and 90 in the secondary contact list. As many as 134 persons on the primary contact list are in the high-risk category.
Meanwhile, one person was admitted to the Manjeri Medical College with symptoms taking the total number of persons admitted there to four. As many as 28 persons are admitted at the MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna.
She said that as many as 268 persons in the contact list have been provided mental support through call centre.
The minister said that the classmates of the Nipah victim, who was a student in Bengaluru college, who are under quarantine were provided the facility to write their exams after health department took up the matter with Karnataka health authorities.
Mpox patient stable
Meanwhile, district medical officer Dr R Renuka said that the health of the Mpox confirmed patient under treatment at Manjeri Medical College was stable. She said that the department has identified some of the 43 persons who had travelled in the flight seated near the Mpox patient.
She said that the department was awaiting the results of genomic sequencing to determine the strain of Mpox virus.
