Lucknow: A 14-year-old boy was crushed to death by a private bus in Pasiyapara Bhagtipur village of Sultanpur on Tuesday.
As the news of the death spread, irate villagers reached the spot, held the driver hostage and pelted the bus with stones. They blocked the Purvanchal Expressway due to which traffic remained disrupted on Nempur-Dostpur road.
Police said that Lavkush, a resident of Pasiyapara Bhagtipur village and a student of Ram Dev Inter College, was on his way to school on his bicycle when a private bus coming from Jalalpur hit him near Kamataganj market.
The boy died on the spot.
The death of Lavkush ignited fury among the villagers, who attacked the bus and blocked the Purvanchal Expressway in protest.
Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Uttam Tiwari, and circle officer Vinay Gautam, reached the spot with force from Akhandnagar and Dostpur police stations to control the situation.
Superintendent of police, Sultanpur, Somen Barma said, "The irate mob blocked the highway due to which traffic remained disrupted for some time. Police had to use mild force to disperse the protesters."
According to police, Lavkush's father, Ram Deen, had passed away six months ago due to illness, and his 17-year-old elder brother, Abhishek, suffered from a mental disorder.
Lavkush's mother, Neetu, was devastated by the loss and was inconsolable. SDM Uttam Tiwari promised support to the aggrieved family.
