Tirunelveli: Residents of Ambasamudram and surrounding areas in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts felt mild tremors on Sunday morning. In response, the district administration alerted the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). NCS officials confirmed that no significant seismic activity posing a threat was detected.
According to a statement from the Tirunelveli district administration, the tremors, which measured between 1 and 3 on the Richter scale, occurred around 11:50 am.
Such low-intensity tremors are common worldwide and often go unnoticed. Authorities assured the public that the tremors caused no damage and posed no danger.
To prepare residents for natural disasters, the Tirunelveli administration has been conducting awareness programmes throughout the district. These initiatives educate the community about various natural calamities, including monsoon rains, cyclones, floods, earthquakes, and landslides, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively during emergencies.
