Bijnor: NHAI on Friday issued a “loss recovery” notice to 10 farmers protesting at the Bhanera toll plaza in UP for the past 11 days against toll collection on an “incomplete road stretch”.
NHAI, in the notice, claimed “a loss of Rs 2.6 lakh per day” and sought to recover the amount from the farmers. The Authority had started two toll plazas on the Delhi-Pauri NH from Meerut to Najibabad on July 2.
Some farmers, however, started staging a sit-in protest at Bhanera plaza the same day as “the road and flyover work was still under construction”.
“It is a matter of concern that while the Chhota Mawana toll plaza (which falls between Meerut and Bahsuma) has become fully functional, the Bhanera toll plaza (between Bijnor and Najibabad) could not be made operational solely due to irrational and unlawful activities.”
