Undeterred by morning rain, crowds throng mandals; lake levels at 99%
Mumbai: Crowds thronged Lalbaug (pictured) to catch a glimpse of Lalbaugcha Raja and other Ganpati mandals despite heavy showers on Sunday morning. Mumbai saw steady rain over the weekend. Its total rainfall for the season has touched 2,555.1mm, surpassing the required average rainfall of 2,318.8mm.
The water stocks in the seven lakes supplying to Mumbai are almost 99% full, at 14.29 lakh million litres.

There needs to 14.47 lakh million litres on Sept 30 for the city to go without a water cut for the rest of the year. In the last two years, there was 98% stock on the same date.
At 1,702.3mm, July recorded the maximum rainfall of 66% this season, while the first half of Sept contributed just 123mm.
IMD's Colaba and Santacruz stations recorded 21mm and 12mm, respectively, of rainfall in a 24-hr period ending on Sunday morning, while relative humidity was at 90% and 91%. The low-lying Andheri subway was closed due to waterlogging.
No heavy rain has been forecast for this week. Monday will see moderate rain and Anant Chaturdashi on Tuesday light to moderate rain. —Richa Pinto
