Nagpur: State govt-owned power utility Mahagenco has secured Environmental Clearance (EC) for setting up 2 units of 660 MW super critical thermal power plants at Koradi. This is part of the replacement of the old units at the thermal power station, which has a current capacity of 2190 MW.
With the EC, Mahagenco can now obtain the consent to establish and start construction work.
The new project will add 1320 MW of power generation to the states' total capacity, but may take another 4 to 5 years for the new units to be ready, said an official in Mahagenco. The company at present has an overall thermal power generation capacity of over 9500 MW, a source said.
Another 660 MW unit is expected to be commissioned at Bhusawal in the coming days, said the source.
