Job gone, IIM grad swindles 16 women he met on matrimonial website of 8L; held
Noida: A 39-year-old IIM Bengalure graduate, who lost his job in 2021, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly cheating women he met through a matrimonial website.
Police said Rahul Chaturvedi, who lived in a rented apartment at Radha Sky Garden Society in Bisrakh, Greater Noida, allegedly swindled over 16 women of nearly Rs 8 lakh and multiple iPhones by creating a fake profile on the matrimonial site.

DCP (central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said Chaturvedi completed BCom from a private university in Madhya Pradesh before pursuing further studies at IIM Bengaluru.
"From 2012 to 2017, Chaturvedi worked as an HR manager at a telecommunications company in Gurgaon, and from 2018 to 2021, he worked with another MNC in Bengaluru. In 2022, he moved to Noida and started a garment business with a partner," Avasthy said.
Chaturvedi's crimes came to light after a 40-year-old woman from Greater Noida filed a complaint at Bisrakh police station on Sept 7. "The complainant said she met the accused through a matrimonial website. After chatting for a few days, Chaturvedi allegedly began visiting her home and even met her parents. He cheated her of approximately Rs 2.4 lakh through multiple transactions, claiming he needed the money for his ailing father's medical treatment. He even purchased shoes worth Rs 16,000 using her money. When she demanded her money back, Chaturvedi blocked all contact and threatened her," Avasthy explained.

The investigation revealed that Chaturvedi had created a fake profile on the matrimonial website and subscribed to its premium membership.
"He posed as an HR manager at a multinational company and even modulated his voice during phone calls to impersonate his father, to avoid suspicion," said DCP Avasthy.
He further added that Chaturvedi had also fabricated salary slips to build trust.
A case was registered against Chaturvedi under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS at Bisrakh police station.
