NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman from Pune, Maharashtra, died following a clandestine abortion at her home. The police have arrested her husband and father-in-law, while her mother-in-law has also been booked in the case. The investigation found that the four-month-old foetus was buried on the family's farm.
A private doctor, who was called to perform the abortion, is also being investigated, police reported.

The woman had married in 2017 and had two children before her third pregnancy. Police suspect that the family arranged the abortion upon learning the foetus was female.
"On Sunday, the woman's condition worsened due to heavy bleeding. She was taken to the hospital the next day but died en route," said an officer from the Indapur police station.
The deceased woman’s brother filed the complaint leading to the arrests. The foetus was exhumed and sent for postmortem.
The Indapur Police station of Pune Rural Police registered the case under sections 91, 90, and 85 of the BNS, and the investigation is ongoing.
