Road expansion not at cost of environment: Meghalaya
Shillong: Meghalaya govt is committed to balancing development with environmental sustainability, deputy CM in-charge of urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told the state assembly on the third day of the ongoing autumn session Wednesday.
“The goal is to enhance public utility while safeguarding the natural heritage,” he said in reply to a question raised by Voice of the People Party legislator Adelbert Nongrum.

The decisions to proceed with road widening and the creation of new parking spaces at Ward’s Lake and Phan Nonglait Park in Shillong were taken after careful consideration of the growing needs of urban infrastructure to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for residents and visitors, he said.
The redevelopment of Ward’s Lake project is still in the DPR stage and that of Phan Nonglait Park project is in the concept and design state, the deputy CM said.
