NEW DELHI: A violent clash erupted between two communities over the installation of religious flags, injuring two people, in a locality in Gujarat's Bharuch city.
The incident happened on Tuesday night in Gokul Nagar, leading to the detention of 17 persons .
The police rushed to spot and dispersed the rioters. The situation is currently under control, an official said.
Police officers arrived swiftly to disperse the crowd, and the situation is now under control, confirmed Bharuch Superintendent of police (SP) Mayur Chavda.
He said, "People from two different faiths had an altercation in
Gokul Nagar over the issue of installing religious flags in the area on Tuesday night. Our teams immediately rushed to the spot and dispersed the mobs. Two persons were injured in the stone-pelting."
The conflict reportedly began when members of one community started installing religious flags and banners in anticipation of the upcoming Eid-e-Milad. This led to stone-pelting by members of both communities, causing injuries and property damage.
Following a complaint, an FIR was registered against 20 individuals, and 17 were detained for further investigation. "We have registered an FIR against 20 persons for engaging in violence and detained 17 of them for further investigation. The situation is under control at present," stated SP Chavda.
A similar clash occurred recently in Surat, where stone-pelting at a Lord
Ganesh pandal led to the arrest of 27 persons and the detention of six minors.
