Trichy: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an order to install a 2x800 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Koderma district, Jharkhand. The project will be supported by six BHEL manufacturing units, including those in Trichy and Ranipet.
The order, awarded through International Competitive Bidding (ICB) by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), highlights BHEL's continued partnership with DVC.
BHEL has already installed more than 80% of the coal-based power stations in Jharkhand and West Bengal. BHEL’s scope for this project includes supply, erection, commissioning, civil work, and emission control equipment. Execution will be handled by the company’s power sector in the Eastern Region.
Sources indicate that BHEL currently holds outstanding orders exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore. The recent surge in orders for thermal power projects has led MSMEs in Trichy to anticipate subcontracting opportunities, potentially revitalizing the local industrial environment. With several thermal power plant orders in the pipeline across India, BHEL Trichy estimates an annual requirement of 1.2 lakh metric tonnes of outsourced components, the highest in decades.TNN
