TRICHY: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) has bagged an order to install a 2x800 MW capacity supercritical thermal power plant in Koderma district of Jharkhand.
Key equipment for the project will be supplied by six manufacturing units of Bhel, including the units in Trichy and Ranipet in Tamil Nadu.
Bhel said the order for the coal-based project to be set up in Koderma district was awarded through an international competitive bidding (ICB) by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
In partnership with the DVC, Bhel was said to have installed more than 80% of the coal-based power stations in Jharkhand and West Bengal. Bhel’s scope of work for this project includes supply, erection and commissioning along with civil work.
The execution on site will be undertaken by the company’s power sector - Eastern Region.
The scope also includes emission control equipment.
Sources said Bhel has more than Rs 1lakh crore outstanding orders secured in a competitive environment.
Citing the surge in fresh orders in thermal power projects in recent months, MSMEs in Trichy opined that the ancillary units around their factory would get subcontracting orders, contributing to the revival of the industrial environment in Trichy.
With several orders in the pipeline for commissioning thermal power plants in various parts of India, Bhel Trichy has estimated the annual requirement of the outsourced components at 1.2 lakh metric tonne, one of the highest in decades.
