Visakhapatnam: With Tuesday being the final day for filing nominations for the local bodies’ MLC polls, YSRCP leader and former minister Botsa Satyanarayana filed two sets of nominations on Monday.
An independent candidate, Sheik Shafiullah, also filed his nomination papers during the day.
Meanwhile, the NDA alliance did not announce its candidate until Monday night.
According to sources, the NDA alliance decided that TDP will contest the elections but the party is yet to finalise its candidate.
TDP AP president, Palla Srinivasa Rao, informed that TDP national president and chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu would take a call on the candidate.
Former minister Botsa Satyanarayana, who filed nomination papers at the collectorate, was accompanied by his wife, former deputy CM Budi Mutyala Naidu, Araku MP Tanuja Rani, and GVMC mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari, former ministers, including Gudivada Amarnath, K Kannababu, and others.
There are 838 voters, including ZPTCs, MPTCs, corporators, and others in the local bodies’ MLC elections.
Out of the 39 ZPTCs, only 36 are on the voters' list as Hukumpet ZPTC Rega Matsyalingam was elected as Araku MLA recently, while Ravikamatam ZPTC Talari Ramanamma and Sabbavaram ZPTC Tumpala Apparao died.
Of the 36 ZPTCs, YSRCP has 34, while TDP has only Narsipatnam ZPTC, and the CPM has Anantagiri ZPTC.
This apart, around 636 MPTCs are on the voters list out of the total 652.
Speaking to the media, the YSRCP candidate questioned the motive behind the NDA alliance contesting the election when YSRCP has more than 530 votes out of the total 836 votes.
He said that the NDA alliance will give the ticket to some businessman and added that politics is not a business. He said elections should be conducted in a democratic manner.
