Gujarat assembly election: Congress candidate seeks probe into his defeat
AHMEDABAD: Even as the Congress party deliberates on its dismal showing in the recently concluded Gujarat assembly election, Congress leader Raghu Desai, who lost the assembly election from the Radhanpur seat of North Gujarat, has written to the party president, Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking a probe into the reasons for his defeat.
Desai was a sitting MLA from the Radhanpur seat and lost to Lavingji Solanki of the BJP by a margin of over 20,000 votes. The Congress had won this seat in a bypoll which was necessitated after its sitting MLA Alpesh Thakor switched sides to the BJP.
“Everybody knows that Lavingji Solanki was very close to senior Gujarat Congress leaders. I have written to the party president, demanding a probe into what factors led to my defeat in the election,” Desai said. Lavingji Solanki quit the Congress and joined the BJP in 2017.
