Sony has announced a special PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, featuring retro-styled PS5 consoles and accessories to commemorate three decades since the original PlayStation's launch, which debuted Japan back in December 1994.
The centrepiece is a limited-edition PS5 Pro bundle, with only 12,300 units available worldwide. The bundle includes a gray PS5 Pro console with 2TB storage, matching DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, charging station, and other accessories.
Each unit will have a unique number etched on it.
Also part of the collection are a PS5 Slim Digital Edition bundle and standalone versions of the DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, and PlayStation Portal remote player, all featuring the classic grey colour scheme and multicoloured PlayStation logo reminiscent of the 1994 console.
Pre-orders for the collection start September 26 exclusively on PlayStation Direct in regions where available. Some items will later be sold through other retailers. The entire collection launches on November 21.
Hideaki Nishino, CEO of PlayStation's platform business group, said the collection honours "the beginning of our journey" and PlayStation's evolution over 30 years. The design aims to appeal to longtime fans nostalgic for the console's early days.
The anniversary products join Sony's holiday lineup alongside the recently announced PS5 Pro. With its enhanced specs and now a limited nostalgic edition, Sony hopes to drive sales and excitement around the PS5 as it enters its fourth year on the market.
The collection includes special collector's items like PlayStation-themed cable ties, stickers, and a limited-edition poster. The original PlayStation controller cable design has been incorporated into the new accessories.
Sony has not yet announced pricing for the items. Given that the standard PS5 Pro costs $699, the limited-edition bundle is expected to be priced higher.
