Shark Tank judge and People Group chief Anupam Mittal has raised his concern over the issue of receiving incorrect traffic challans. Mittal shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) tagging Maharashtra Chief Minister,
Eknath Shinde. In the post, he wrote that one of his acquaintances recently got an auto-penalised traffic challan for not wearing a helmet while driving a car.
Expressing his frustration, he said that “while the traffic menace does need interventions, weaponising it without safeguards can become harassment”.
He further stated that the “photos shared as evidence often have just the license plates & we don’t have the time to fight this out in Lok Adalat, like most others”.

Here’s what Anupam Mittal said
Recently, an acquaintance got an online traffic penalty for not wearing a helmet. He owns a car😅 Every month we also get auto-penalised by @MTPHereToHelp adding up to thousands for a couple of cars. Photos shared as evidence often have just the license plates 🤔 & we don’t have the time to fight this out in Lok Adalat, like most others. While the traffic menace does need interventions, weaponising it without safeguards can become harassment @mieknathshinde Maybe dept pays citizens 2x if they can’t prove the violation 😇.
How X users reacted to the post
Mittal’s post has sparked a wider conversation online, with many echoing similar frustrations about traffic penalties in the state. Replying to his post, an X user wrote “It’s like they’re more focused on collecting fines than actually improving road safety. There should be a better system in place that allows for fair assessments and appeals. What if we had a way to contest these penalties easily without jumping through hoops?”.
Another user commented “funny thing is i got car speeding challan when i was abroad that day 😂😂 when Que, silently challan got cancelled but no action on cop who may be generated it with photoshop 😜. “Received a fine for not having done PUC on my two wheeler. It is an electric bike,” said another.
