Ahmedabad: A day after the international director of Indus University was held for allegedly molesting a foreign student, Bopal police on Tuesday recorded the statements of three students. Additionally, another foreign student, whose name was also mentioned stating she was also harassed, denied having made such an allegation.
Inspector B T Gohil of Bopal police said the complainant had stated in the FIR on Sunday that another female student was sexually harassed by the accused, Mrudang Dave, 52, a resident of Vadodara.
"We spoke to that student, but she denied having made the allegation. We also took the statements of three witnesses in the case," Gohil said.
Meanwhile, Dave was granted bail in the case on Monday, police officials said.
According to the complaint, the international student joined the university in June 2023. She alleged that Dave had been sexually harassing her and the other international students since then.
The FIR states that around 6.30pm on Sep 11, when she went to get food, Dave approached her and inquired about her well-being.
"While I was answering him, he came close to me and molested me. I rushed back to my room, but he followed me. Dave caught me outside my room and tried to forcibly kiss me. I pushed him away, but as he fell, he began touching my legs inappropriately. I somehow managed to escape into my room," the student said in her complaint.
Bopal police filed a complaint against Dave under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 78 (stalking) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
