Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Ahead of World Mental Health Day on Oct 10, a mental health centre in the city has organised various competitions and events for students and professionals to spread awareness of the importance of mental well-being to overall health of an individual.
"As part of efforts to raise awareness and highlight the importance of mental well-being in society, we are hosting various competitions with a focus on different sections of society.
The competition is free for all and will offer attractive prizes," consulting neuro psychiatrist Dr AA Quadri said.
Organisers said the debate competition for colleges will be held on Sept 23, poster competition for schools and colleges on Sept 24, drama competition for schools and colleges on Sept 25, and elocution competition for schools on Sept 26.
A separate speech competition for different professionals is organised on Sept 27.
"The prize distribution for all the competitions will take place at Sant Eknath auditorium on Oct 10. The event will witness a poetry recital by poet Nayab Midha," Quadri said.
Quadri said that mental illness still carries social stigma in India. "Many suffer silently without disclosing their illness due to this stigma. Mental well-being is just like physical well-being, but the society still needs to understand this fact," he said. "It is time to prioritize mental health in the workplace" is the theme of the World Mental Health Day this year and some of the events will be based on this theme, organisers said
