BHOPAL: A farmer in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh, has discovered a diamond valued at approximately Rs one crore, marking a remarkable turn of fortune after eight years of mining efforts.
Officials informed that Swamidin Pal, a farmer from Ranibagh Mohalla in Panna, has dug up a 32.80-carat diamond, which has a value of around Rs one crore. He had leased a shallow mine in the Sarkoha area.
Pal, who has been simultaneously managing his two-acre farm and mining for diamonds, found the stone while working in the field on Thursday.
Following the find, Pal deposited the diamond at the diamond office, where it will be included in an upcoming auction. After a 12 percent royalty is deducted, the proceeds will be credited to Pal’s account.
Pal shared his experience with local media, stating that he was working in the field when he found the diamond. He took it to the diamond office immediately with his sons. He added that he had been engaged in diamond mining alongside farming, working in the mine for about five months this year and persistently searching for diamonds over the past eight years.
Pal, who has faced financial difficulties throughout his life, expressed hope for a brighter future, saying that he has endured a lot of poverty and now, with this diamond, he plans to buy agricultural land for his two sons so they can avoid labour work.
Govt officials confirmed the discovery, highlighting that the diamond’s estimated value exceeds Rs one crore. They also reported that, so far this year, 16 diamonds totalling 124 carats have been deposited at the diamond office.
