Chandigarh: The municipal corporation, Chandigarh, has received approximately 50 applications from the offices of different sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) for organising Ramleela and
Dussehra events on various grounds across the city.
Following the application rush, the booking branch of the civic body has written to the engineering wing to provide the feasibility report regarding the grounds and open spaces to ensure that these places were fit to organise such events.
“According permission to organise Ramleela is an annual affair. However, it is important to ascertain the feasibility of the sought venues and the engineering department has been asked to submit a report in this regard,” said an MC official, adding that the civic body had been receiving “applications in bulk”.
“Since many other departments of the UT, including the police, also play a vital role in this entire exercise, communication is also established with them,” said the official. The role of the fire and emergency services department, police department and the office of the deputy commissioner is equally important and the permission will be granted after getting the no objection certificates (NOCs) from all these departments, said the official.
Since specific employees of each department are given charge to look into such issues, the final permission letter will be issued after getting the NOCs from all departments.
The fire department has to make the arrangements for the two events, particularly for Dussehra, it needs to keep the fire tenders and related staff ready round the clock, while the police department requires to deploy adequate personnel in the area. The festival season is the most hectic period for these departments, said a source.
Sources in the MC, meanwhile, said they were expecting to receive more such requests in coming days.
