CM to review plan for procurement of paddy
Chandigarh: Ahead of the paddy procurement season, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann will hold a meeting with officials of the food and supplies department on Wednesday. He will review the preparedness for smooth conduct of the procurement exercise with timely payments to farmers.
With a record sowing of paddy in the ongoing kharif season, the state govt has set a rice procurement target of 48.5 million tonnes for the 2024-25 marketing year, starting in Oct.

In 2023-24, there was procurement of 46.3 million tonnes of food grains. This season, basmati farmers also expect a bumper crop in the state due to sufficient rainfall over the past weeks.
