Patiala: Students at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law here continued their protest demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor for his unannounced visit to a girls’ hostel on Sunday evening. Students alleged that the VC entered the premises without notice or consent and made inappropriate comments about the clothing of female students.
On Tuesday, students alleged that faculty members tried to persuade them, at the VC’s behest, to end the protest.
“On Monday, they called a meeting at short notice and repeated same on Tuesday too. This has led to two members resigning from the committee formed by the university administration to resolve the matter amicably. We want the resignation of VC along with his written apology,” said a protesting student. The students said the VC claimed his purpose of visit was to inspect the mess and address the issue of insufficient accommodation for first-year students, but he inspected girls’ hostel rooms against university guidelines. The hostel is restricted to women, with even parents not allowed entry, they said. Ishita Sharma, public relations officer at the university, said the committee constituted by the university called a meeting on Tuesday evening.
