Amritsar: A youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan here on Tuesday. Police reports suggest that Rajan, the victim, was under depression following a dispute with his wife, who left for her parents’ house about a month ago.

Amritsar: Shots were fired outside a garment shop in Chogawan, near Amritsar, late Monday evening.CCTV footage showed several persons firing at the main gate of the shop, with the bullets striking a glass window. The assailants fled. Police registered a case.
5 arrested with illegal weapons

Ludhiana: The CIA team of the Malerkotla police has arrested five persons for allegedly possessing arms and ammunition. The accused are Harpreet Singh (28), Baljeet Singh (24), Jashanpreet Singh (22), all hailing from the Kalyan area; Jaswinder Singh (18) of Mithewal village and Deepak Singh (25) of Raikot.
Paid holiday in Pb today, Oct 1
Chandigarh: In view of the elections of the legislative assembly of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, the Punjab govt declared a paid holiday on Sept 25 (Wednesday) and Oct 1. The voters would be eligible for a special holiday from the competent authority by presenting their voter ID.

Chandigarh: Punjab govt has released Rs 13.16 crore under the Ashirwad scheme for the backward classes and economically weaker sections during the current year.
